Title Sequence- ‘Catch Me if you Can’
I decided to research Florence Deygas’ and Olivier Kuntzel’s animation for the introduction to ‘Catch Me if you can’. This is where I got the music for my animatic from and it helped to inspire the mood I wanted to capture in my work.
Their work was aesthetically inspired by Saul Bass, who used block colour designs and silhouettes in a very stylised way. The characters in the introduction were created using stamps in a low-tech, naïve approach. The stamps used in the final production were the initial ones handcrafted in a short space of time at the start of the pre-production process. This was to keep tone of the sequence linked closely with the film itself. The film was set in the 1960’s, due to this, Deygas and Kuntzel aimed to create a title sequence that captured the handmade aspect of the era within their work. They researched hairstyles, postures and clothes of the 60’s and most importantly worked with John William’s score which perfectly depicts the ambiance of that time. An aim for the final sequence was to maintain the charm of a handmade animation that could easily fit into the intended era. |
