Design For Stop Motion & CGI
Archie- Stop motion puppet armature designThis is the armature design I would use if I used Archie in a stop motion animation. The initial idea is shown in the bottom right of the page. However, I then decided to use rubber hose animation for my character, so I eliminated the rigid, lightweight material that would be used in the arms and legs.
I decided to develop my characters using rubber hose animation. This was the first, standard animation style in America. It's recognised by the limbs literally being boneless and moving in simple arcs and curves. I wanted to use this, as I thought it would be more in keeping with the time period that my characters are set in. |
Character Design for CGI
These are the designs for my character, Archie, if he was to to used if different CGI media, including video games, broadcast and VFX.
The video game design is a low poly model, using more simple, geometric lines for the skin but more detail within the structure. This is because details such as the braces and tie wouldn't be animated during movement. This design is within the constraints of a game engine.

This is the character design that would be suitable for broadcast. It's fairly simple, using block colours and clear lines. These specifications allow the character to have a fast turn around during production, making it suitable for a broadcast series.

This design shows what my character would look like if it were to be developed into a feature film, using VFX (Visual Effects). The colours are created using textures of the materials that would be used. (The same as above for the stop motion puppet designs). Actual materials are used, to gain a sense of realism in the design.
