Dog Development - Initial Doodles
In the end I decided to go with a beagle. This breed of dog is a scent hound, well known for their tracking ability, intelligence and sense of smell. This is why beagles have been employed as detection dogs.
For this reason, I thought a beagle would be the perfect breed to use as a private detective in a crime genre animation. Beagles have a soft and friendly appearance but also look intelligent and sophisticated. This helped influence the personality of my character. |
This is how my initial designs began. I picked the dog out my page of very first doodles and decided to develop it from there. I explored using various breeds of dog and various styles of drawing them.
I looked at using different forms of locomotion, by trying out my character with 2 or 4 legs and possible giving him human characteristics. I also experimented with a variety of eyes that could completely change the personality of my character. |
Character DevelopmentThese show a range of outfits that the dog could wear. I want the characters, scenes and stories to be set in the early 1950's, so I researched what sort of clothes would be worn in order to create a more accurate picture.
To add extra personality to my character, I also experimented with hats. |
